Disappointed with performance and wifi

This cooktop will indeed heat a pan of water to boiling very quickly. What i have found to be disappointing is that maintaining a constant cooking level, such as a simmer is difficult. When i use my pressure canner, i have to adjust the temperature frequently to maintain the same pressure over 30 minutes. I have the same trouble with simmering. The other problem is that the instructions for connecting to wifi do not work, even when the instructions were obtained for this model. I can't even add it to my smart HQ app. It has been a very frustrating experience. I wish i could give it back.

No Quick Boil / intrusive and Mandatory App

The only advantage of an induction cook-top over less expensive alternatives is the ability to boil water quickly. GE has this feature locked behind an application that is poorly implemented, requires FULL Permission on your phone including contacts, mic, GPS, phone, nearby devices, and camera. As well as access to your home wireless network password and all. Over the air data from your cell phone will not suffice. I know this because I spent over an hour and a half with their tech support attempting to enable this BASIC feature to no avail. I cannot in good conscience recommend this device or any GE appliance that requires an application. - The buttons are difficult to see except in the best light - Pots must be positioned perfectly (and the correct size for the burner, no moving them around) - Noisy transformer when in use. - Nothing special about appearance. - It does get hot! - The buttons (when you can find them) are responsive. - Your terms and conditions & Privacy statement are a recursive link back to the page that is current and not to your T&C or Privacy Statement.

This range did not work on installation back in early-mid December. A technician earlier this month (January) determined that the boards are faulty. Apparently GE wants to repair it instead of giving me a new cooktop that works from the start. One of the boards is on back order until near the end of February. It does not instill much confidence that the unit was faulty from the get go, and it™€™s very frustrating that it will take over 2 months from installation to hopefully have a working cooktop.

So completely not functional WIFI interface. Turns on, sends text message, but not when off. Useless annoyance. Trys to connect to WIFI every time I clean it?????? It does not interface with other things like Apple HomeKit, using the now common "Matter Protolcol". No way to apply AI or other cooking apps to cooking. Nothing about temperature. It is no better than an electric range for half the price. The sole purpose of the WIFI was to send you marketing.

Overall design is consumer friendly. Controls are intuitive to use. Burners are flexible for using different size pots and pans. Love the simmer functionality. Being induction, the surfaces are not hot once the pan is removed. The Wifi adds information about burners being On....We have the 36 inch version and is a great addition for our kitchen layout. The black cooktop is easy to clean. We replaced a gas cooktop and was able to install this unit without any additional cutting of the quartz countertop. This was a great purchase.

Wonderful cooktop -- Easily damaged

We have had our induction cooktop for 45 days. While preparing breakfast, an OXO plastic storage container clipped the edge of the cooktop and shattered the edge and broke the glass near the far-left side. I would never have suspected a While cooktop has been wonderful, there needs to be something on the edge to protect the cooktop. A small nearly empty plastic storage container should not be able to destroy a cook top built for cast iron cookware.

Love the style, look and connectivity. I've only owned it for a couple of weeks and it's my first induction oven, so I'm still getting used to that. I'll reserve a higher racing until I've see how it works over a longer period of time. So far it's excellent. As with the other 5 Cafe appliances we bought (except the drawer microwave), it has wifi and bluetooth. The wifi enables you to see the status on your phone through yhe app which is great. The bluetooth connects with the GE vent hood and integrate with the cooktop. Fan and light can be turbed on and of with the induction cooktop when it turns on. I love the style and look.

Pretty but does NOT work!

Purchased this in November of 2023 and it was recently installed in my newly remodeled kitchen. The induction burners turn off randomly and will not turn back on. I have the right type of cookware, the right size, the pot is not empty and the unit is barely used (i.e. not cooking a large meal on multiple burners for long periods of time). After several seconds to a few minutes, the indicators read "HOT" and the cooktop turns off. Sometimes you can turn it back on, but most of the time we have to switch to using our portable induction cooktop we purchased for use during our remodel. That one works like a charm btw. The fan rarely, if ever, turns on, even when the burners read "HOT" and the burners are barely warm to the touch if not room temperature. I have an appointment scheduled for repair under warranty but I'm pessimistic at best. It's pretty, really pretty, but you can't cook a meal on it...so that's a bummer.

The absolutely worst cook top I™€™ve ever owned. Paid almost 3 thousand dollars for this cool top, had it replaced after 3 months due to defects. The second cooktop isn™€™t any better, you want to wait till infinity to boil 2 cups of water, then this induction cook top is for you. Such a waster of money and everything to try and get one delivered that actually works, can™€™t get a new one delivered because GE has the worst sully chain issue of any company you will ever deal with. Simple to use and powerful enough to bring a large pot of water to boil easily 5 x faster than a conventional electric cooktop. No knobs or buttons to get cruddy or burnt. The specialized Hestan pans for Sous vide cooking are not available anywhere at the moment and other reviewers have mentioned that they frequently have trouble getting these to work with Bluetooth and the temperature probe. Otherwise, I would have rated 5 stars.

Just installed the 36 induction. We didn™€™t want the trim version and bought the solid black one so it would be clean, without trim. My wife didn™€™t want one until we found out that it will work with hexclad. Seems to work flawless so far. Can™€™t believe how fast it boils water. CRAZY! She was concerned about the humming noise with the magnets, but trust me, I have to listen close to hear. I wouldn™€™t even think about humming now. We are super pleased, and we are now looking for a griddle made for induction to try the left side out. We have Hexclad cookware. I have seen the Heston with the Bluetooth features, but we wanted the hexclad that can last forever. Me and my wife now have the lighted back wall fridge freezer by cafe and now have the cooktop. Next is Microwave. Love Cafe Appliances.

This cooktop replaces our previous Whirlpool unit that had become unreliable with the heating power. The new Cafe unit works well and the best part is there is no mechanical dials thanks to its capacitive touch controls. It makes cleaning such a cinch since you don™€™t have the dial knobs obstructing the cleaning process. The only know I have against it is the depth length. It™€™s short by 3/4™€ than the old unit, so it leaves a gap open in the back. I™€™ll need to come up with a custom lid of some sort since it is an eyesore. Wish the Cafe unit offered some form of cover to seal the gap.

The cooktop is very sleek and improves the appear of our kitchen. We switched from natural gas to this electric cooktop. We needed a minor enlargement of the opening for this to fit. We opted to not have the stainless steel rim to prevent any future cleaning issues. The controls work well and the display dials work fine. Though it would be nice if there were a digital display showing the present power settings. This is shown on the app, as ™€œ45%™€ for instance, but not on the unit itself. It seems like it could be displayed with a firmware change. As it is, it™€™s still very ™€œanalog.™€ The unit heats quickly and so far has been performing admirably , though we have only had it a short time so far. It is quiet enough and cleans easily. Back to the app, it is basically useless. It does tell you if burners are on but nothing more. You cannot even turn off the stove remotely or adjust any heat levels. It may help with the ™€œprecision heating™€ though we have not tried that as the needed cookware and probe are laughably expensive and at least the probe should have been included. Overall, it™€™s good but could have been great.

We upgraded from a Whirlpool electric glass cooktop that had knobs for each heating element. Going to a fully capacitive touch control is a blessing when it comes to cleaning since there™€™s no dials or knobs to obstruct the cleaning process. A completely flat glass surface makes cleaning a cinch. One small issue I had is the depth of the unit being 1 inch shorter than the previous Whirlpool unit, leaving a gaping opening in the back. It would have been nice if GE had included an adapter or cover plate of some sort to close the gap. It looks like we™€™ll need to craft a custom cover to close the gap. Functionally speaking, the cooktop works well as advertised. Though it™€™s only been a week of use so far, both wife and I love it.

Do not Buy-Glass is defective -no warranty

Do not buy GE Cafe cooktops the glass cracks in the corners and they are not covered under warranty. We have two of these and the glass cracked at the corner on both. The most recent (picture included) was a medium pot lid slid of a pot and cracked the glass. GE service (800)663-6060 informed me that the glass is not covered under warranty from day one and that the warranty on the rest of the unit is one year. The only option for a 3500$ cooktop is to open a service call. The technician charges 30$/15 minutes for labor and the part is sold by a third party which the GE support manager offered to do a google search to give me an estimate which was around 1340$. This basically will cost half the price of the unit and it will not be warrantied either.

Noisy and not as fast as expected

It is ok but makes an annoying humming noise when turned on. It does not heat up water in 30 seconds as demonstrated unless it is a very small amount.

Wonderful Cooktop

We had a kitchen renovation done and after much research decided on an induction cooktop. Couldn't be happier with our new Cafe induction cooktop. It's so sleek, controls are easy to use. It has the versatility of cooking with gas, without the dangerous fumes. Heats up instantly and cools down just as fast. I love it.
